What is amorphous precipitated silica?

Precipitated silica is a form of synthetic amorphous silicon dioxide. It is derived from quartz sand, a crystalline form of silicon dioxide. The physical properties of precipitated silica can be manipulated during the manufacturing process to create products that enhance the performance of finished goods in many different industries.

PPG's precipitated silica is a form of synthetic amorphous silica covered by CAS REGISTRY NUMBER: 112926-00-8, (CAS# 7631-86-9 for the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) inventory purposes).

How is amorphous precipitated silica used?

Typical applications for amorphous precipitated silica include: free-flow and carrier agents for food, animal feed, and agricultural and industrial chemicals; flatting, thickening and anti-corrosion additives for paints and coatings; microporous fillers for battery separators; performance-enhancing fillers for tire, industrial and silicone rubber applications; and non-black reinforcing agents for rubber shoe soles and footwear.

In what packaging is PPG precipitated silica available?

PPG precipitated silica products can be packaged for shipment in small bags and flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs). Bags are unitized for shipping on pallets that are stretch-wrapped with clear plastic film. FIBCs are single- or double-stacked on wood pallets and stretch-wrapped. Please contact PPG silica products group Customer Service for information about specific standard packaging sizes, materials of construction and pallet configurations, as well as the availability of additional packaging options, including custom package sizes and bulk shipments.

Does PPG have 3rd party certifications for its products and/or manufacturing facilities?

PPG’s precipitated silica production facilities are quality-certified under ISO 9001:2008 (Registrar: Det Norske Veritas). PPG’s products are certified Kosher for Passover and year-round use by the Orthodox Union.
